Crossing Over

WHen Ryker turned 11 he graduated from being a cute little Cub Scout to being a handsome Boy Scout. We were not able to have him attend his crossing over ceremony until December because the day they had it scheduled for in November just happened to be the day we went out of town to go to McCall. So we waited. I bought Ryker everything he needed for his uniform to be a Boy Scout and it was so different to see him in the khaki color of the Boy Scouts rather then the Cub Scout blue.
Ryker happened to earn his Arrow of Light award which is a pretty prestigious award and so some boys from the order of the arrow troup were invited to come to present his award. There were two other boys getting this award and Ryker happened to be first up to receive his. The boys presenting the award were maybe about fifteen or sixteen years old and they called Ryker up along with me and Kefford. They told Ryker well done and gave him a certificate and then had him present a pin to me. Once that was accomplished we stood there looking at these two boys waiting for whatever was next, meanwhile they just looked at us. It was super awkward and uncomfortable with them just staring at us until I finally got the hint that maybe we were done and needed to go sit down. So in the midst of all this uncomfortableness I headed towards my seat and then turned to see if I was being followed by my loved ones. Kefford was still standing there staring at the boys waiting for something until he too got the hint and came to sit down. Because we went first the other boys and their parents knew when the boys stopped talking and started staring it was time to sit down. So weird and awkward! Kenedy was recording all of this and unfortunately did not get any pictures of the proceedings, but we got it on video! :)

After all the weirdness was done the 11 year old Scout leader and a member of his troop presented Ryker with his new scarf and to welcome him into their troop. This was a little less awkward.

I bought an Arrow of Light kit at the scout store for Ryker and Kefford had a lot of fun putting the arrow together. I think he was really pleased with himself in how it turned out. This is something we can hang on Rykers wall so he can remember that he earned this award.
