Pinewood Derby Time

So the time has come for Rykers very first Pinewood Derby. He was pretty excited and could not wait to get started on his car. Kefford helped him come up with a design and once he got it cut out Ryker spent lots of time sanding the wood. A paint color was picked by Ryker and once it got all done it was a nice looking racecar.  

The Racetrack was a professional Pinewood Derby racetrack (who knew?) and it was all hooked up to a computer so that every racecar was timed as it came down the track. Ryker was a little disappointed that his car did not come in first but he got over that really fast and just had fun. I was really impressed with the good sportsmanship all of these boys showed. They really were just excited for each other and were there to have fun!

Rykers car is the cool green one with the Nike sign on it. Definitely had his Dads influence!

Every kid got a "gold Medal" and some type of award. Rykers award was for "Best Workmanship".

Overall it was a fun night with lots of rowdy and excited boys. I really thought it was going to be more competitive especially amongst the Dads, :o), but it wasn't, everyone was there to just have a good time. After it was all over Kefford talked to the Guy in charge of the racing and they managed to figure out that Ryker came in fifth out of the fourteen racing. Not too bad for his first time in the Pinewood Derby!
