Ryker's Videos

Ryker came home with a school project a couple of months ago. The third graders have been learning about communities and what the different stores and things within a community. In Ryker's class as part of the project they had to pick a card with either a g for goods or s for service on it. Ryker got a g card and so he had to pick a store in the community that sold goods and make a miniature store. He picked a video store. The problem with this project is that the instructions told us it had to be super precise. You could only use glue, preferably hot glue, all the lines had to be perfectly straight, wording had to be displayed neatly. Basically it made us believe that the parents were the ones that had to do the project because it made us so paranoid about everything being perfect. So Kefford did all the building and landscaping and I went in and did the "decorating" and tree placing. Ryker picked out which cars to put on. It was pathetic how little we had him do but that is how we thought we were supposed to handle it. It was hard work but we got it done in time to be displayed with the rest of the community.
I was pretty impressed with the set up. they had it all displayed in the gym and it looked like a real community.
They all made a sign promoting their businesses and had them hanging on the wall.
The kids built homes during class time and had them set up within the community as well. Rykers had a basketball hoop which I thought was cute.

Ryker had lake front property. Not too shabby!

And here is his Video store. Once we saw some of the other stores we realized maybe we could have relaxed the control a little bit better and let Ryker do more. We know better for the next third grader we get.
